Wrapping Up the Year with Garuḍāsana

Release Tension - Focus - Balance - Play - Rest:

As we wrap up the year I'm playing with garuḍāsana (the eagle pose). In this pose we wrap the arms around each other and the legs around each other - typically done standing - it is a challenging pose that helps us to cultivate and focus our attention and practice balance. We do practice this standing this week - but I am also playing around with this pose supine - an interesting variation to explore.

This class Wrapping Up with Garuḍāsana focus, balance, strengthen and stretch (80 min) is a longer class but packs in a lot of goodies. We loosen up the shoulders and upper body which allows us to release tension and improve breathing. We warm up the hips and our standing sequence will strengthen hips and legs and give us a chance to improve our balance. The first 40 minutes of the class is a class within itself so if that is what you have time for then you could stop there and do the rest later in the day or another day.

I've also created this video The "Resting" Eagle - Core Strength Play (25 min) which is an excerpt of the part of the class on the floor - it's a great little practice for stretching hips and strengthening the core - so you can do that on days when you want a 25 minute practice.

I hope you are wrapping up this year with some good solid self care - take a little time here in the library for some inspiration and support.

Happy Holidays!

Audrey
