Mobile, Fluid Hips and Legs

Well here we are mid-way into autumn, "vata" season according to Ayurveda - a holistic system of medicine that originated in India. During this time of year it can be easy to become cold, dry and scattered - just like the falling leaves. It's a good time to get grounded with a practice that helps us center ourselves, connect to the breath, find our feet, legs and hips, root into the earth and improve our strength, mobility and stability.

Mobility is strength through your range of motion. This week in class (and other classes in the library) we work with a "slider" - in this case a towel on a smooth floor to warm up the hips and legs and explore and build up our range of strength. We move through a series of standing poses that take the hip sockets through a full range of motion. This is a perfect preparation from which to play with hanumanasana (don't know what that is??? oooohhh - check it out it's fun and you may surprise yourself!) and then we finish up with a soothing, comforting supported twist and savasana.

Click this link to dive into this practice now: Mobile, Fluid Hips and Legs (77 min) and be sure to play with some of these elements throughout your week - especially the mini-lunge slide...this will transform your stability - keep it going! Just a little bit everyday goes a looooong way.

I hope you have a beautiful week.

Punar milamah, Audrey
