Improve your Breathing with a Movement Practice

Audrey Harpe | SEP 27, 2022

Breathing is essential to life - no surprise there! But did you know that our movement or lack of movement impacts how efficiently we breath? Variety in our movement keeps the tissues of the body that are responsible for breathing resilient, responsive and strong. The front, sides, back and center (!) of the entire torso need to be able to move for effective, healthy breathing patterns to exist.

I've created a fun and maybe a bit challenging practice for you to follow along with to bring some delicious, healthful movement to our hard working breathing muscles and supporting tissues. Once you've got it you can play with this without the guided video - it's really a good thing to just explore a little bit everyday - because that is where the change happens. Also - there are many more benefits to this practice besides the breathing improvement - one "side effect" could be an uplifted mood!

The video lives in the Pranayama practices section of the library because it is a foundational practice to prepare the body for pranayama. But you can also click this link to get to it: Improve Breathing with Movement (39 min) Have fun with this and may you breathe more deeply !

Here's a silly video I made while playing around with some of the parts of this practice - hopefully you find it inspiring!

Also new in the library this week: I added a very short video called Postural Refresh (8 min). You can do this mini experiential anatomy inquiry to increase awareness and learn how to refresh your posture throughout the day. In this inquiry I use a seated posture to bring clarity but this can and should also be applied to standing posture. Have fun with this...and may you sit and stand a little taller and with more ease!

Have a great week, friends. Punar milamah!
